What is Thread Density and Stretchability?

Thread Density refers to the number of threads per inch (TPI) or per centimeter (TPC) in a fabric. Higher density means the fabric is tighter and usually less stretchable.

Stretchability is how much a fabric can stretch under tension. Lower thread density usually increases stretch.

How to Estimate Stretch from Thread Density

Stretchability is roughly estimated as:

Stretch (%) = 100 – (TPI ÷ 200) × 100

Example:
TPI = 100 → Stretch = 100 – (100/200) × 100 = 50%
