Active-duty sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln are sending desperate messages home saying they are receiving unprecedented and dangerously small portions of food to eat while deployed in support of Trump’s conflict with Iran.
Marine Corps veteran and journalist Jerrod Zisser shared texts from a sailor on the ship: “I’m reading texts saying that he’s starving, that he’s almost passing out in line waiting for food … If you raise your right hand and swear an oath to the Constitution, you should not have to worry whether or not you’re going to get adequate food at all.”
According to Zisser and family members, sailors are rationing food, there is no fresh produce on board, and portions are so small that they don’t sustain them for even a few hours of work. One sailor reportedly described his breakfast tray as nearly empty and said he is “dreaming of McDonald’s.”
Zisser’s disclosure is not an isolated complaint. In April, USA Today reported similar accounts from families of sailors on the Abraham Lincoln and USS Tripoli, with some families resorting to sending emergency care packages because the ships were running low on food.
While Donald Trump pays lip service to “supporting the troops,” American service members are struggling to get adequate basic meals during his military operations, which is not contributing to them being in fighting form should the need arise, and it’s tremendously negative and abusive on a basic human level.
Napoleon famously said an army marches on its stomach – no matter how well-trained or equipped a force is, it will fail if its basic needs aren’t met. Our men and women in uniform put their lives on the line and should NOT have to worry about going hungry while serving their country.
We’re tired of Pentagon Pete Hegseth denying this and every other problem associated with the Iran boondoggle, and this disclosure confirms that it wasn’t some kind of aberration or one-off.
Hegseth and what remains of his officer corps have overextended themselves, and can’t supply the thousands of brave men and women aboard the strike force with the most basic of provisions.
They better get it together or step aside for some competent leadership.
