How to Convert Sine to Cotangent

To convert a sine value to its corresponding cotangent, use the following identity from trigonometry:

Formula:

cot(θ) = √(1 - sin²(θ)) / sin(θ)

Note that cotangent is undefined when sin(θ) = 0, as this would involve division by zero.

Example:

Suppose sin(θ) = 0.5

Step 1: Calculate 1 - sin²(θ) → 1 - 0.5² = 1 - 0.25 = 0.75

Step 2: Take the square root → √0.75 ≈ 0.866

Step 3: Find cotangent → cot(θ) = 0.866 / 0.5 ≈ 1.732

Result: cot(θ) ≈ 1.732
