What is Air Density Calculation from Temperature and Pressure?

Air density refers to the mass per unit volume of air. It is affected by temperature and pressure. Using the Ideal Gas Law, air density can be calculated as:

Formula:

ρ = P / (R × T)

Where:

  • ρ = Air density in kg/m³
  • P = Pressure in Pascal (Pa)
  • R = Specific gas constant for dry air (287.05 J/(kg·K))
  • T = Temperature in Kelvin (T(K) = T(°C) + 273.15)

Example Calculation:

If the temperature is 25°C and the pressure is 101325 Pa, we can calculate the air density using the Ideal Gas Law.

Temperature (°C) Pressure (Pa) Air Density (kg/m³) Formula
0 101325 1.225 ρ = P / (R × (0 + 273.15)) = 101325 / (287.05 × 273.15) = 1.225
25 101325 1.184 ρ = P / (R × (25 + 273.15)) = 101325 / (287.05 × 298.15) = 1.184
30 101325 1.169 ρ = P / (R × (30 + 273.15)) = 101325 / (287.05 × 303.15) = 1.169
