What is Air Density from Dew Point, Pressure, and Temperature?

Air density depends on the total pressure, temperature, and moisture content in the air. The dew point helps determine the amount of water vapor present. Using this, we calculate the partial pressure of vapor and determine the combined density of dry air and water vapor.

Formula:

ρ = (P – e) / (Rd × T) + e / (Rv × T)

  • ρ = Air density in kg/m³
  • P = Pressure in Pascal (Pa)
  • e = Vapor pressure from dew point in Pa
  • Rd = Specific gas constant for dry air = 287.05 J/(kg·K)
  • Rv = Specific gas constant for water vapor = 461.5 J/(kg·K)
  • T = Temperature in Kelvin
